When downloading a file check for the existence of the md5sums file in the same folder. If it exists calculate and compare the md5sum for the downloaded file against the corresponding line in the md5sums file. Alternatively look for a file with an appended extension of .md5 which should contain the md5 checksum of the file. If the checksum does not match offer to retry the download.
